Digitally Printed Book Edges

A book that has printed edges is a real eye-catcher and will instantly set it apart from its competitors.digitally printed book edges Whether it is a subtle and delicate pattern, a motive with great attention to detail or even full-colour graphics – a digitally printed book edge gives the book a truly special look. But it's not only the aesthetics that are important – the printed edges also add a high level of functionality and safety. The edge printing of a book protects the spine against wear and tear and prevents the pages from slipping out of place.

Traditionally, books were gilt-edged or had coloured edges to indicate their importance and value.digitally printed book edges The process, which involves applying gold or silver leaf to the edge of a book, was very time-consuming and expensive. Today, this method can be replaced by hot stamping foils in a wide range of colours and finishes. Foils can be metallic, matt or even have a fluorescent or holographic appearance. The possibilities for book edging are endless.

In addition to gold and silver, we can also apply graphic patterns and motifs with a digitally printed book edge. This is possible using a special machine known as PraziEdge, which prints any desired design on the trimmed edges of the book block before the binding. The machine uses a combination of a print head and a conveyor belt system. The print motifs are prepared separately and then transferred to the machine via WLAN. A precise sensor detects the start of the book, so that the print starts at the right position on the edge. For coloured or motif edges, overlapping printing is required to avoid white lines. In order to achieve this, the print heads of the machine are equipped with special scrapers that collect overprinting ink and thus protect the edges of the book from damage.

The PraziEdge printer processes both paper and hardcover books of various thicknesses. It is a high-performance machine for the production of small and large runs, with up to 300 books with three edge sides printed per hour. The machine works with water-based CMYK ink and can even print on materials such as wood or fabric.

The digitally printed book edge is an exciting and innovative way to add a touch of luxury to your books.
